Why Remote Server

The remote desktop server your team needs — without the server room.

We replace the cost and complexity of on-prem servers with a fully managed cloud server hosted right here in Australia. You get the familiar Windows desktop your team already knows, on infrastructure we look after for you.

Connect from any device

Windows PC, Mac, iPad, Android tablet, iPhone — if it has a screen and an internet connection, it can access your Remote Server. No special hardware needed, ever.

Secured and dual-backed up

Hardened Windows Server, locked-down user roles, plus 30-day server restore and 90-day file recovery — so ransomware or hardware failure can't touch your business data.

One predictable bill

Server, Windows licence, MS Office, maintenance, updates and backups bundled into one monthly cost inc. GST. No surprise bills, no capital outlay.

Reduces or replaces IT

Many of our clients reduce IT spend or skip an internal IT hire altogether — the routine work is bundled into your server fee.

Work from anywhere

Office, home, satellite locations or on the road — your team logs into the same Windows desktop, same files, same apps, from any location worldwide.

Software you already use

MS Office, Outlook, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Adobe Reader and 7-Zip are pre-installed. Bring your own licences for line-of-business apps; we'll install them for you.

How it works

A familiar Windows desktop, hosted and managed in the cloud.

Instead of buying a server, paying to maintain it, and worrying when it breaks — your team simply logs in. Files live in one place, software is updated in one place, and backups happen automatically.

  • One Windows server, accessed by every team member from any device
  • All data on the D: drive, backed up locally and to the cloud
  • Pre-loaded with MS Office and your essential business tools
  • Concurrent users not capped — pay for what your business actually needs

FAQ

Common questions, answered.

If you're considering a remote desktop server for your business, these are the questions we hear most often.

Is a remote desktop server right for my business?

If your team uses Windows software (MS Office, accounting packages, industry-specific apps), works from more than one location, or relies on a shared file structure — yes. A remote desktop server replaces the on-premises server, ad-hoc file sharing, and the headache of keeping everyone's local computers in sync. It's especially valuable for businesses with hybrid teams, multi-site operations, or aging hardware due for replacement.

How long does it take to set up?

Most clients are operational within 5 business days. Discovery and quote on day one, server provisioning and software install over the next 2-3 days, data migration and user setup on day 4-5. We work alongside your team so the cutover happens with minimal disruption — usually over a weekend.

What about data security and Australian privacy laws?

All Remote Server infrastructure is hosted in Australian tier-3 data centres — your data never leaves the country. Each user has individual login credentials, role-based folder access controls who sees what, and the entire server is backed up to two locations daily. This setup is suitable for businesses subject to the Australian Privacy Act, including allied health, legal and financial services.

Can I run my existing software on the server?

Yes — virtually any standard Windows application runs identically on a remote desktop server. MYOB, Xero, QuickBooks, Reckon, AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, ERPs, CRMs, industry-specific platforms — all work as expected. You supply the licence; we install and update the software for you as part of the managed service.

What's included in the monthly fee?

Server hardware, Windows Server 2022 licence, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), 350/350 Mbps connectivity, OS patching and maintenance, dual-site backups (30-day server restore + 90-day file recovery), role-based access setup, and ongoing support. The only things not included are licences for specialist line-of-business software you bring with you. All prices are in AUD and inclusive of GST.

What devices can my team use to connect?

Any device that can run Microsoft Remote Desktop — Windows PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, Android phone or tablet, Chromebook, even thin clients. Microsoft provides free remote desktop apps on every major platform. If a device has a screen and an internet connection, your team can use it to access the server.

Is this the same as Citrix or AWS Workspaces?

It's the same category of solution but built differently. Citrix and AWS Workspaces are enterprise-grade platforms designed for very large organisations and priced accordingly. Remote Server delivers the same end-user experience for small and mid-sized Australian businesses at a fraction of the cost — without per-user complexity, multi-year commitments or the need for an internal IT team to manage it.

Let's spec your server.

Tell us how many users, what apps you run, and where your team works from — we'll come back with a sensible package and a clear monthly figure.
